“Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord. According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness…” 2 Peter 1:2–3
The human experience whether in life, business, health, purpose, or dominion requires power. Not just physical energy or intellectual strength, but spiritual power: the force that makes things happen in both seen and unseen realms.
Let’s explore how spiritual power works from Scripture, human experience, and even observable scientific and psychological principles.
The Christian life is not sustainable without power. To walk in victory, dominion, relevance, and fulfillment, spiritual power is essential. It's the unseen force that drives visible results both in our godliness and in everyday life: finances, relationships, influence, and impact.
What Is Spiritual Power?
Power, in essence, is the capacity to influence outcomes. Spiritually, it is the divine force that compels alignment with God’s will and makes impossible things possible.
Biblically, this power:
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth... and God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” Genesis 1:1–4
“Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and the glory... In Your hand is power and might…” 1 Chronicles 29:11–12
“And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power...” Ephesians 1:19–20
Quantum physics reveals that unseen forces (like energy fields and vibrations) govern visible matter. In a similar way, spiritual forces govern outcomes in the natural. Just as electricity is invisible but powers entire cities, spiritual power is unseen but fuels real-life breakthroughs.
Why Do We Need Spiritual Power?
To Subdue Darkness and Adverse Conditions
Psalm 66:3 — “Through the greatness of Your power shall Your enemies submit.”
Life is a battlefield. Spiritual power gives believers the authority to resist demonic forces, evil systems, and internal battles.
To Fulfill Purpose and Destiny
Acts 10:38, “How God anointed Jesus... with power... who went about doing good.”
Without power, visions remain dreams. Purpose needs force to manifest.
To Enforce Kingdom Reality on Earth
Romans 8:11, Power is how the life of the Spirit overrides the limitations of the flesh and the fall.
Three Dimensions of Spiritual Power
1. Intimacy With God — The Highest Source
“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection...” Philippians 3:10
Fellowship with God is the fountain of true power. The closer you are to the Source, the more you radiate His strength.
2. Spiritual Laws and Principles
“Do you know the ordinances of heaven? Can you set their dominion on the earth?” Job 38:33
God’s kingdom operates by laws, not luck. Principles such as honor, faith, giving, prayer, and obedience activate spiritual power.
3. Spiritual Alignment
Lot’s detachment from Abraham resulted in a decline of divine backing. Power flows where divine alignment is preserved—by lifestyle, associations, and obedience.
Five (Plus) Expressions of Spiritual Power
1. Power to Become (Transformation and Identity)
“To them that believed... He gave power to become...” John 1:12
This is the force behind salvation, character development, and personal growth. It moves people from weakness to strength, obscurity to relevance.
Peter, once fearful, became a bold apostle after encountering divine power (Acts 1:8).
2. Power Against (Resistance and Warfare)
“Behold I give you power... to trample on serpents and scorpions...” — Luke 10:19
This is defensive and offensive power—used in resisting demonic attacks and evil projections. Engaged Through: Prayer, fasting, Scripture, and spiritual intelligence.
3. Power Over (Exemption and Ascendancy)
This empowers the believer to rise above systems, territorial spirits, and man-made limitations. It’s a power that exempts, enthrones, and distinguishes.
Daniel 3:25 – The three Hebrew boys walked through fire untouched.
Ephesians 2:6 – We are seated with Christ above principalities.
4. The Staying Power (Endurance and Stamina)
“If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.” — Proverbs 24:10
This power gives strength to wait, to endure, and to persist until manifestation.
Anna in Luke 2:37, who worshipped faithfully for decades until Christ was born.
5. Power to Get (Provision and Attraction)
“But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth...” Deuteronomy 8:18
This is the grace to attract opportunities, ideas, people, and resources.
John 21:6 – Jesus’ instruction brought a boat-sinking harvest.
Proverbs 10:22 – “The blessing of the Lord makes rich…”
This spiritual power interacts with your mind and actions to produce supernatural results.
6. Power for Influence
This empowers your voice, work, and presence to shape cultures and hearts. Daniel, Joseph, Esther each rose to national relevance through divine empowerment.
7. Power for Signs and Wonders
This expression makes the miraculous possible, healing the sick, raising the dead, and demonstrating the supernatural (Acts 4:33).
Modern Reality: Documented medical miracles continue to confirm the power of God beyond scientific explanation.
How Do We Access Spiritual Power?
1. Intimacy with God (Acts 1:8, Philippians 3:10)
No shortcut replaces relationship.
2. Knowledge and Faithfulness (Matthew 13:12, Luke 16:10)
Those faithful in little will be trusted with much.
3. Impartation and Mentorship (Deuteronomy 34:9, Romans 1:11)
Anointing can flow through laid hands, but it stays through understanding and practice.
4. Prayer and Obedience
James 5:16 emphasizes fervent, righteous, heartfelt prayer aligned with God’s will.
A Life Powered by God
Psalm 62:11 reminds us: “God has spoken once, twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God.”
To live, lead, and last, you must access spiritual power. Power is not reserved for a few; it's available to anyone who aligns with God, embraces His laws, and engages His Spirit.
